Why a Cardinia arborist

Three things every Pakenham tree job needs to get right.

Council overlays and permits.

Whether you can legally remove a tree in Pakenham depends entirely on the planning overlay on your title. Standard residential lots in central Pakenham, Officer and Cardinia Lakes often have no tree controls. But a Vegetation Protection Overlay, Environmental Significance Overlay or Significant Landscape Overlay, common on the rural and bushland blocks up in Pakenham Upper and toward the Bunyip State Park, means you need a planning permit from Cardinia Shire Council first. Removing a protected tree without one risks fines into the tens of thousands. We check your overlays before we quote and lodge the permit for you if one is needed.

Bushfire clearing rights (10/30 and 10/50).

Properties in a Bushfire Prone Area, which covers much of Pakenham Upper, the Cardinia hills and the rural-residential fringe, can use the Victorian 10/30 rule to clear vegetation within 10 metres of a home and prune within 30 metres without a planning permit, plus the 10/50 rule along boundaries. These exemptions are powerful but have conditions, and they do not override every overlay. We work to them correctly so you reduce your fire risk without breaching the Planning and Environment Act.

Reactive clay, wind-throw and big eucalypts.

Pakenham’s Class M to H reactive clay holds water through winter and shrinks hard in summer. That seasonal movement loosens the root plates of mature eucalypts, and Cardinia’s strong westerly and northerly winds do the rest, which is why wind-throw and dropped limbs are common here. A large gum leaning over your roof is not a job for a chainsaw and a ladder. It needs a climbing arborist, proper rigging and the right insurance. That is our everyday work.
